Buying a Website Helpful Tips

When we first started making websites over 10 years ago, we were clueless. Our team actually started from scratch with no prior knowledge once so ever and we had to teach ourselves. We truly believe the best way to learn is by just doing it and by experiencing everything that occurs when creating your very own website. Let us tell you first, it is way easier now than it was even 5 years ago. They have software you can install directly onto your website, like WordPress, that controls every aspect of your content and keeps your website looking beautiful. You no longer need to know how to develop or code anything to make a gorgeous website for your audience. Keep in mind having some coding knowledge will definitely help you but it isn’t completely necessary.

Quick Tips:

  • Use How to Create a Website Online to Help You
  • Find a Domain Name that is Available (Free Domain Checker)
  • Create Short-Term & Long-Term Goals
  • Don’t Give Up
  • Work on your website Daily
  • Don’t Over Pay

Buying a Domain Name

First things first, you need to come up with a domain name. Once you figure out what your domain name is your going to want to make sure it is available. If your domain name happens to be unavailable don’t worry. With a little creativity, you will find a perfectly good domain name that is still available and will be perfect for your small business, online shop or even blog website. The domain name is the address that people are going to use to find you online so make sure it relates to what you are doing.

Buying a Hosting Plan

A website is made up of 2 main things, the domain name and the hosting plan. Having just a domain name isn’t going to allow you to do anything with it. Think of your first and last name as your domain name. Now think of your brain and body as the hosting plan. Without your brain and body you wouldn’t be able to do anything, you would just be a name. The same goes with website domain names. Without the hosting plan, you can’t generate content and your website is blank. The good news is most hosting companies offer domain names, sometimes even free, with the purchase of a hosting plan.

How to Create a Favicon for Your Website

How to Create a Favicon for Your Website

Creating and Uploading a Favicon or a “Favorite Icon” is very easy to do. Once you create the Favicon, you need to upload it to your website. Let us show you exactly how to start from scratch and finish a website favicon.

Using a Favicon Generator – Very Easy To Do

Our favorite Favicon Generator website would be which allows you to draw out any image you would like using pixels. All you need to do is pick what color you want, then you fill in the pixels like so:

For this example I made an “H” for the favicon. If you look below you will see how they also give you a web browser example of what your favicon is going to look like:

As soon as you create one that you like, then you can click “Download Favicon” and then save it somewhere you can remember because you need to upload that file to your website. If this is the way your going to create a Favicon then scroll down and skip the next step.

Creating a Favicon with Photoshop – Still Easy To Do, but you need Photoshop

If you happen to have Photoshop then we suggest you do it this way. You can make it look much nicer than a Favicon Generator can do because you don’t have to do it Pixel by Pixel. What you want to do is open Adobe Photoshop and click on “File > New…” or hit Ctrl+N if your using Windows.

A box will then Pop up where you need to fill out the proper dimensions. What your going to want to do is make sure the width and height are at 16 px (Pixels) because that is the size of a Favicon. Please refer to the image below:

Fill out your Photoshop box the exact same as the one above and you should be good to go. Click “Ok” and now you have a very small image to work with. For this example, We are going to create the same exact image we made with the favicon generator. What I need to do is select the “Horizontal Type Tool (T)” which is what the text box is called in our version of Photoshop. It might be slightly different if you have a different version.

We are going to use a font called “Impact” because it stands out and type the letter “H” in the 16 px by 16 px square.

Now that you have you image ready you need to save it. We save it as “favicon.png” for now and we will show you have to change it to the right file type in windows.

Your almost there! Now that you have your file saved you need to open the containing folder that is holding the file. Make sure you have “View File Types” checked in your settings because you will be ranaming it. Change the “.png” to “.ico” and you now have the proper file type to upload to your website.

Uploading Your Favicon To Your Website

Uploading your favicon is the hardest part about this entire process which isn’t that hard at all. We use cPanel when we are uploading so hopefully you have something similar. What you want to do is go to your websites root files. Since we are using cPanel, we would click on “Legacy File Manager” then we would select “How To Create A Website Online .com” like we did below.

After you made it to the main files, all you need to do is upload your “Favicon.ico” file to the main index and you have successfully created and uploaded your favicon. It might take a few hours before you see it on your website, but we promise, it’s there.

Creating and Uploading a Favicon is definitely something we recommend that you do for your website. It shows your uniqueness and when people bookmark your page, they will see that image and think of your business instantly. We also recommend that your favicon is similar to your logo if not the same exact thing. If you look at any popular website online, they all have a nice favicon that you can remember.

Buying a Hosting Plan – Website Hosting Services

Buying a Hosting Plan for your website is something you are going to need unless you just plan on selling a domain name without putting a backbone behind it. A website hosting plan is the muscle behind your website and is exactly what provides you with the ability to create your website. If you are looking to just purchase a domain name, please refer to this article before proceeding any further. When buying a hosting plan, you want to do your research and make sure you are purchasing the proper plan for your intentions.

Say you are just interested in starting your own blog and don’t expect a ton of traffic right of the bat. You would be much better suited for a shared hosting plan rather than a dedicated server plan. Most people reading this article I would suggest starting with a shared hosting plan and then working your way up to a more powerful hosting plan once your traffic increases. How to Create a Website Online is currently on a shared hosting plan and it works perfectly for the amount of volume we currently get.

Need help finding if your domain name is available?

What is Website Hosting and How Does it Work?

Website hosting is the back-end of your entire website. Without website hosting, you wouldn’t be able to have any content on your domain name. Every one of your favorite websites that you visit, same with the website you are viewing right now, has a host that holds all the information in place. Major websites like Facebook or Google have their very own dedicated servers because of the amount of traffic they get. You most likely will do just fine with a shared hosting plan that is very inexpensive when you consider the cost of starting your own business.

To make things easier on yourself, make sure you buy your domain name while purchasing your website hosting. Most times, you can even get a free domain name with the purchase of hosting. For Example, say you purchase a domain name from Company ABC. Then say you purchase a hosting plan from Company XYZ. You now have to make sure the DNS Servers match up with both companies for your hosting to work. Sometimes this could be an easy process but other times you may have difficulty getting things up and running. We highly suggest purchasing both your domain name and hosting from the same company at the same time. Most domain and hosting companies provide an easy setup process if you bundle these items together.

Buying a Domain Name Tips – Helpful Guide

Buying a Domain Name

Buying a Domain Name is something you may consider if you own your own business, want to start your own business, or you just want to create a blog and express your opinions on anything you want. Buying an actual domain name is the best way to go because it gives your visitors a place to go directly when they are trying to find you. Most domain names end with a “.com” however there are different variations like “.net” or “.org” you could also get your hands on. If you are just starting out we suggest going with a “.com” because they seem to rank much better in the search engines. This isn’t really documented anywhere or scientific fact, however in our experience “.com’s” seem to be the best bet.

Buying a Domain Name Tips

When you are buying a domain name you want to make sure you are confident in the name because you don’t want to have to change it later on. The second you purchase a domain name you are developing a brand or furthermore expanding your already established brand. If you tend to change things often people are not going to find your new domain this is why it is important to find a solid “.com” name before making that purchase.

The first thing you want to do is come up with a domain name that represents your company, idea or blog. Now the internet has been around for a while now and plenty of domain names have been taken. However don’t let discourage you from coming up with your own domain name. If you spend some time and get creative, you will find a perfect domain name for your website. Once you have come up with a solid name you are going to want to check and see if that name is available.

You can check the availability of a domain name below with our simple Domain Name Checker:

Are you ready to secure your domain name?

Now before you check to see if your domain name is available, make sure you are ready to buy. There are people who sit and watch what domain names are being checked and purchase them right away so they can profit off of the name you want. Although this is a rumor among the internet world, it could very well be true so we don’t want you to lose out on your domain name. We highly encourage you to keep the domain name idea to yourself and not to post the idea on a forum/blog because there are people out there who will snatch it up and try to overcharge you for the name. Also don’t be discouraged if the name you just looked up is unavailable. We create website constantly and we go through sometimes 20+ domain names before we find one that is available. The more creative you are, the better chances of finding a domain name that isn’t taken.

Don’t Overpay for a Domain Name

  • Typical Available Domain Name Price: $15.00 to $45.00 Per Year (This is per year and typically comes with privacy options as well. Learn how you can get a FREE Domain Name.)
  • Premium Domain Name Price: A premium domain name could be anywhere from $500 to $250,000 depending what the name is and the business associated with it. (This is for website names that are already taken or pre-existing businesses that are for sale. You will also have to pay to own the registrar rights yearly after you pay the premium price. We highly suggest against this unless you are an advanced website owner and know exactly what you are doing.)
  • Website Hosting Plans: Now Remember, the price above is for the Domain Name, that doesn’t include a hosting plan.

In the past it was often suggested that the smaller the domain name, like 3-5 letters, the better. That may have been the case and could possibly still be the case since the demand is still there, however think about how you search the web. Also finding a short letter domain name is pretty much impossible unless you want to pay a premium price. We suggest never paying a premium price for a domain name because it isn’t necessary anymore. Do you use a search engine most of the time like Google or do you actually type in the URL you are trying to visit? Our URL is pretty long for your typical domain name, being How to Create a Website Online .com, we decided to explain what we were all about in our domain name instead of keeping it short. If you happened to find us in a search engine or a social media link then our point is shown right there. We don’t bank on people typing in the full URL for our website but we made it a simple enough phrase to remember regardless.

Why You Need to Chose Bluehost For Website Hosting

Bluehost is the Best Hosting Company Online

Ever watch Television for even half a second? Ok, well then you have heard of GoDaddy. Now I’m not going to bash GoDaddy but I have seen a couple clients website’s of mine that used GoDaddy and they ran slower then my top hosting companies. Here’s the problem with a company that advertises on TV, most of the viewing public doesn’t realize there’s other options and they trust the name because it has been embedded in our skulls. Look if you want to try them be my guest, it might actually work out for you, I have no idea personally.

What I do know is there are way better options out there. Hostgator is another one of my favorites besides Bluehost, but people seem to be turned off by the allowance of adult content on Hostgator. Personally I don’t mind but I’m not one to care much about pointless stuff.

Now more about Bluehost, My first ever website that I created, when I was 13 years old, was with Bluehost. I am now 22 years old and I am still using Bluehost! That’s about 10 years of using a company, here’s a question for you. How many companies do you know that last longer then 5 years? Especially online? I’d say more fail than are successful. I believe Bluehost has been around since 1999! They have only improved since the beginning and they will only continue to improve.

You Can Trust Bluehost With Your Website
