Install WordPress on a Website
There are 2 different ways that you can install WordPress to a website. You could go directly to WordPress.org and Download the File, or you could use a installer like Fantastico that comes with most hosting companies. If you decide to download the file on your own head over to WordPress.org and click on “Download WordPress”. At the time of this tutorial, they are offering version 3.5
Click on “Download WordPress 3.5” and it will take you to this screen right here:
Once you click on “Download WordPress 3.5” it will have you save it to your computer. Once it is saved to your computer it will be a .zip file. You can either extract it on your computer or wait to upload it then extract it.
Upload the .zip file to your website, if you want it as the index make sure you upload it in the root. If you need help uploading a file please check out our tutorial on that here. Once you have uploaded the file, you will want to extract it if it is still a .zip file and then find the install.php file.
At this point you click on the “Install” file and it will guide you through a few steps and then you will be good to go. You will have WordPress installed! This is probably the more difficult way of doing it, so let’s show you the easy way if you decided to host with our favorite company.
Install WordPress Using Fantastico
This is by far the easiest way to install WordPress to a website. Fantastico is exactly what it’s called, it’s Fantastic! You can install many different website features to a website and WordPress happens to be included. This is how we installed WordPress to this website and it worked out perfectly and took less than 10 seconds. If you need help using fantastico, please check this out first.
Log in to your cPanel and find the Fantastico Logo, it should look like this
Click on that and find “WordPress” on the left navigation bar
Yes it’s really this easy! Just click on “WordPress” and you will see the installation screen appear.
As you can see, we already have an installation in the root or the index of our website. That’s how we are capable of even posting this tutorial for you. WordPress is a magical tool my friends. In your case you won’t see the installation on here, so just click on “New Installation” and it will guide you through the process.
